You have to remember...I don't know what I'm talking about

Why do we as a society have this creepy tendency to try to insulate the elderly from the changing world around them? Is it just our generation of grandparents and great-grandparents, or have we always done this? I just can't help but notice that once people hit sixty or so, their families start trying to keep things from them - such as the increasing lack of censorship on TV, the growing failure of even the most brutal depictions of violence to shock jaded theatre-going youths, and the general fact that people have sex with other people. At all.

What's up with that? Are we afraid they won't be able to die peacefully unless we pretend that the world never got any scarier than it was in 1992? And that if they aren't good and peaceful during the twilight years, they'll come back and haunt us? If so, I'm cool with that. Old people ghosts are the worst.

Also, Blogger refuses to acknowledge the fact that I now live in Kansas City, despite my many efforts to inform it of such. What's up with that?

Rather cozy for a woodshed, he observed.. Ma, said Jane Watkinson, you had better tell him what speech to speak.. As far as the direction is concerned in this third part of the dream, it may be said that here again the movement is progressive.. I am so sorry I lost my whip.. The success of the condensation work produces those intensities which are required for penetration into the perception systems.. At this stage of the explanation she no longer denied that the picture of the dream really corresponded to one of her wishes.. The statement which will be perhaps then made, that he cannot concentrate his attention upon anything at all, is to be countered by assuring him most positively that such a blank state of mind is utterly impossible.. Company; at table or table d'hote.. I also consider ludicrous the moral indignation which prompted the translator of Artemidoros of Daldis to keep from the reader's knowledge the chapter on sexual dreams contained in the Symbolism of the Dreams.. Very well, Hester--very well indeed, said Mrs.. Can we wonder that Master Horner determined to make his empire good as far as it went? A new examination was required on the entrance into a second term, and, with whatever secret trepidation, the master was obliged to submit.. When I first came to town I shared this sympathy, and pleased my imagination with fancying her hard struggle with the conviction that she had lost all that made life beautiful.. You have a pair of spectacles, I believe, that you value very much, because your grandmother brought them as a marriage portion to your grandfather.. No, there wasn't, by gum! Nothing but the house? His very own words! chuckled Uncle Billy.. Come, come now, cried Buller.. Now tell me, what does this mean? You know me: am I really bad enough to wish my sister to lose the only child she has left? Or does the dream mean that I wish Charles to be dead rather than Otto, whom I like so much better? I assured her that this interpretation was impossible.. And then you will be able to repeat your remarks to me in the street , continued the Colonel, bowing, as he persisted in following his visitor to the door.. The driver bent suddenly forward. Ellsworth paused for a moment to exchange a word with Uncle Billy.. He nodded familiarly to people as he met them, and saw not the look of amusement which succeeded astonishment upon the various faces...
